In Her Shoes
Jennifer Weiner
"I read In Her Shoes -- actually it's a funny story. My boss was talking to me about all the books I'd read, and I was telling her about all these classic literature books that I really liked. She goes, "Oh, you read? I'm gonna bring some books for you!" So she brought a pile of all these books that she had read, but every single one of them was chick flick, which is a kind of genre that's supposed to appeal to women. I'd never read a book like this before.
In Her Shoes is about two sisters. One sister is supposed -- you know, the smart one who never gets a date; and the other one is the kind of wilder one who doesn't have a whole lot of self-esteem but she gets all kind of male attention. The two of them always argue, and the smarter one always feels like she's bailing the other one out; but in the end they kind of end up helping each other out.
It was fun to read this book. Honestly, I don't think I got as much out of it as I had from other books, but when you're in the mood for just something really light and sort of fun and easy -- I mean the only thing they really have to worry about is who they're dating and how that's gonna work out. It's kind of nice. I guess I probably related to the smarty-pants sister a little bit more than the other sister, but both characters were good. They were well written in that they were both flawed, very flawed, and that they both changed. I would give this book maybe three stars out of five."
