"I'm not sure where I came across "San Francisco, Then and Now," but I came across it at some point because I'm super in love with San Francisco history. So, this book is pretty much a picture book with a caption for each picture, every page is laid out with a picture of San Francisco then and a picture of San Francisco now. So, on one side is a black and white picture of how it was and on the right side is a picture of how it looks today.
One thing I'll say about the book is you know it's a pretty simple concept, then and now. And on that simple concept they kind of failed in that the "then and now" photos aren't exactly the same framing, angle, anything, at times. And it makes it unduly difficult to pick out the buildings that are still there now, that were there then. And it seems like if you're going to do a book called "San Francisco, Then and Now," you probably want to go to a lot of trouble to make sure that it's absolutely the same spot. The same you know, whatever focaling through framing, all that, so that it's super easy for the person looking at it to go, wow, that building's still there, which they really didn't do.
I'd recommend it to anybody interested in San Francisco. You know it's essentially a coffee table book, so I guess it would make a better gift. But, you know if you come across it, you might pick it up. I'm going to give it four stars. And it doesn't get the fifth just because of that one thing about making sure that its super exact to the old photo, which I think could have been done."
