How can I sell books to BlueRectangle online?

To sell used books or new books to BlueRectangle, Just enter as many 10 digit ISBNs (International Standard Book Numbers) as you want into the space provided. Include any leading zeros or ending x's. Press "begin," and you'll see which books we'll buy. Once you've entered all of ISBNs for all of the books you wish to sell, you'll create a packing slip and mailing label. Put the books and the packing slip into the box. Seal it. Attach the mailing label and take it to your post office.

What sort of physical condition should the books be in?

For us to accept a book it must:

  1. Be in good condition or better
  2. Not be a teacher's, instructor's, or international edition

Good condition means:

Exactly as you would hope to find a book that you bought in good condition.

What kinds of books do you not buy?

Do you accept books that include CDs?

Yes, but be sure to include the CD along with the book.

What happens if you do not accept my book(s), for instance because its physical condition was poor or it was missing a CD?

If you pay for the postage to return them to you and do not hold us responsible for the post office potentially losing or damaging the books on return, we will send them back to you. We don't pay to return books or accept liability for returned books that are outside of the reasonable guidelines in this FAQ.

What happens if you don't receive some or all of my books?

With or without delivery confirmation, we never pay for books we did not actually receive.

What kinds of books do you more frequently buy?

BlueRectangle purchases books that are in demand and will sell at a reasonable mark-up from what we pay you plus what we pay for postage. We are a book buyer specializing in buying and selling books which most often fall in the non-fiction and general-interest categories, such as:

We do buy other kinds of books, such as fiction and children's books for example. We just buy a more select list.

When and how do I get paid?

When you sell books to us, we first receive the box of books and verify that its contents and condition match those listed on your packing slip. We process payments via PayPal and check once per week.

PayPal is our fastest and most preferred method of payment. If you choose payment via check, please be aware it may take up to 6 weeks from the time you send your books to when you will receive your payment in the mail.

In any case, please keep in mind that your books will travel to us via USPS media mail. This can take from 4 to 21 business days to arrive to our warehouse. So, the biggest variable in time before you get paid is the postal service's shipping time.

Do I have to pay for postage to get my books to you?

No. We pay for postage via our merchandise return label.

How long do I have to send in the books?

Books must be sent within 5 days or the prices offered may change.

Should I pay for insurance on my package of books?

You should pay for insurance if the loss or destruction of your package through the postal service is an unacceptable risk. (For instance, customers who sell used books as opposed to new ones usually risk less possible financial loss, should the package be damaged or lost while en route to our facility). This cost is up to you. Generally, it doesn't cost much to insure a package.

What happens if I don't include some of the books on the packing slip?

What happens if I include books in the box that are not on the packing slip?

We'll contact you.

How do you decide which books to buy?

As a book buyer, we base our prospective purchases on supply and demand in the market. Generally, we buy books that we can re-sell at a reasonable profit.

Why don't you buy all of my books?

Some books are in over-supply in the market. So, if we can only sell the book for (as an example) $1, we can't pay for the book and the cost of shipping and still make a profit.

What if my book doesn't have an ISBN?

Sorry, but we can't buy it.

Any other tips?

Just make sure to double-check the books in the box match those listed on the packing slip. We will only buy books that are included in the packing slip. You might even mark the books with a checkmark as you place them in the box. Then, include one copy of the packing slip with the shipment and hold onto one for your records.
