Guest blogging is a great way to spread the word on just about any subject, increase your writing credits and even make a buck. I have written for two blogs, BusinessInfoNews.com and SBANetWeb.com, which feature short articles about business news, innovation and trends in business. Be sure and invite the host of your blog to post on your site. That way both of you get a chance to share your expertise and increase traffic to both blogs.

So what are the elements of a successful guest blog post?

Writing about something in your area of expertise has the advantage of expounding on a subject you are comfortable with. The internet is a wonderful tool for this. It saves many hours that researchers of the past had to use in poring over information gleaned in the stacks of libraries. And, covering unfamiliar subjects helps you learn something new for yourself while imparting it to an audience.

RESEARCH THE STYLE AND CHARACTER OF THE BLOG FIRST.

Style and character are determined by the nature of the subject material and what information the reader expects to find in the blog post. Thus, a description of a new innovation in finding and ridding the environment of pollution differs from writing about fashion or food and entertainment. A good way to expand your research and writing abilities is to write in other fields beyond your area of expertise.

BE SURE AND LINK TO SOURCES

First, of course, you will want to give a link to your own site. When you guest post and earn a link from that site to yours you earn a little bit of value. There are also links to sites that give authority to the subject you are writing about and give you name recognition in your industry.

THERE IS VALUE IN REACHING OUT TO OTHERS.

The above-referenced article gives several ways guest blogging leads to new contacts. Setting up a guest blogging campaign entails writing a guest blog every one to three months. It gives you the opportunity to develop relationships with its site owners, editors and audience. Someone in that group may have an opportunity for you. While few viewers read an author bio, if someone is looking for someone with your expertise a guest blog is a good way to get their attention.

KEEP IT INFORMATIVE

People read blogs, after all, to learn something they didn’t know. Stick to the subject of the blog. Keep it lean, full of information backed up by authoritative links and avoid digressions. After you submit the blog to the site owner if they suggest changes or revisions, honor them. They and their editors can give you valuable feedback.
